Play gives children exercise, allows them to use their imagination, and gives them time to be social and interact with other students. It's important for them to learn rules, learn to work together with other children, and to have the opportunity to be leaders and followers.

School-age children need play to develop lots of skills that are important. It's good for their bodies and their minds to play with other children. Even if they play by themselves, it is good to have play in their child care programs.

Play is important, because this is where most of the social skills learning happens in my mind. The children learn how to work together, make up rules for games learn how to enforce rules correctly. Play is also a way for them to use free thinking and take charge of what they are doing. Most of the activities they have are planed and the adults make the rules.

Play allows children the chance to burn off the energy they've been carrying around throughout the day. It lets them express themselves in an environment where it is okay to be loud, to run, to throw and kick things. The exercise is beneficial to their health, and the play itself teaches children about teamwork, cooperation, empathy, and encourages use of their imaginations.

It is good for social health because it allows children to interact with each other and develop social skills. It is good for emotional health because physical activity helps regulate people's moods. It is good for academic health because it allows for problem-solving, strategy-building, and rule-following in working well with others. Even for younger children who engage in side-by-side play rather than interactive, it gives children a positive outlet

Play is important for children because it aids in their learning how to move their body, to become more agile and coordinated. Younger kids are a little less coordinated so play helps them "practice" by moving their muscles in ways that they might not have previously. Play is also important because it helps kids learn how to follow rules, oral contracts, and moral lessons (ie. cheating is not okay). In regards to learning how to follow rules, children learn how to keep the (sometimes intricate) rules of a game in mind while, at the same time, figuring out how to win the game. The older the kids get, the easier it is for them to do this, but it does take practice--which is why it's important that they keep playing.

Play is important to all school age children because they need to blow off some steam after a full day of work from school. Also it helps them grow in all areas and also they learn to develop social skills and much more.

Play is important because it helps kids learn how to play with each other and how to be a team player in most situations. This also helps with gross motor skills

Play is highly important to all school aged children for many reasons. Typically children do not get the proper amount of time in school for physical activity. After school programs give kids much more chance for physical activity. Play is also important to children gaining social skills, from team games to communicating with others the rules to the game being played.

Allowing the children time to play is a key part of their development. Often times people don't realize its importance. Giving the kids time to play allows them to not only get their energy out but get their blood flowing throughout their brains for when they come back inside to focus on other activities and or homework and reading time.

Play is important for all children, especially after school, because children need flexible time to imagine, create, engage, exchange, and exercise without the adult-driven planning and structure they experience in classrooms all day. Play can include athletics and dramatics, arts and sciences, logic and reasoning, etc. Children need time to learn how to follow rules, create rules, compromise, cooperate, and make decisions with knowledge and practice. Electronic devices often impede opportunities for playing games or sports offering gross motor movement and exercise. Indoor and outdoor play should be the cornerstone of after school child care.
