I think that the respectful guidance style is the best. The reason I think that is because teachers who use this guidance style are respecting their students and are also getting respect from them. The teacher and the child get respect, manners, and things tend to work better when this happens. Eventually some of the other guidance styles probably come around depending upon the situation, but respectful should be the one used most often.

I agree! Children and adults perform better when they feel respected. My students range from kindergarten to 5th grade. Kinders bring their art work for me to see. I praise it, and make suggestions on "doing more with it" if possible/needed. My older students do the same and I compliment them on their work and answer questions or ask questions about it. It also makes them feel accomplished when they feel that I value them and their work..

I believe that Respectful guidance works best. It gives both the adults and the children an even playing feel. If the adults are in tune with the need of the children they have a deeper respect for them and the children feel that respect and are more likely to return it. It also give the children to use their learning style instead of only the teachers.

I think that the Respectful guidance is the best one to use because you connect with the children on a better level. The children will be more open and respectful to you if you treat them as an equal. Plus if you treat them as an equal, then they will learn that treating others with the same respect is the right thing to do.

The Respectful guidance style is obviously the best. The Authoritarian guidance style will stunt the cognitive growth and development of a child and the Permissive guidance style is too lax to be effective.

Respectful method to me is the most useful guidance structure because it still allows for the adult to be the authority figure but it also gives the child the opportunity to think critically and make decisions on their own. This method provides for the best possible outcome of a child to develop into a strong individual.

I believe the respectful guidance style is most effective. This gives neither the child nor adult too much power. When everyone respects one another, it promotes the most learning. Consequences are both positive and negative in regards to behavior. Children feel important, not threatened, and enjoy their time in a classroom, center, etc.

The Respectful guidance helps kids learn in a productive learning environment . The students would be able to learn rules and boundaries in a respectful way and it will help them be functional law abiding adults later on. Respecting one another and having a mutual understanding of others needs is vital in a child's social growth.

I believe that "respectful" is the way to go, because school age kids aren't babies. they can have a conversation with you about what they like and don't like. and letting them give you ideas on curriculum is not only beneficial for the teacher because your getting new ideas, but you know that if the kids are giving you the ideas not only are you boosting there confidence by letting them help with activities but you know its going to keep them interested it would work out for everyone.

I believe that the respectful guidance is more effective, because you learn from early childhood that you treat others how you want to be treated. Children, including adults both have feelings and want to feel respected and treated fairly as individuals. Lead by example. By walking your talk, you become a person others want to follow. When leaders say one thing, but do another, they erode trust, a critical element of productive leadership.

As a parent myself, I find the respectful guidance style the best in parenting and in every day contact with children. It allows them to grow as individuals, contribute to the growth of others, and it allows them to be the best person they can be without instilling too much or too little on them for their age range. With this guidance style it gives room for the child to make their own decisions without any harmful repercussions while still having that adult to care and look over them to make sure the decisions are sound and helping them grow into a wonderful person. This style of guidance definitely leads to a strong personality and will allow them to grow into an exceptional adult where they understand the different aspects of life such as reality, optimism, stressors, etc.

The respectful method is the best way, although I personally struggle with that method. it is the best way because it helps the children respect you as a staff they feel respected and that their concerns or thoughts are being taken into consideration. it is really tough to consistantly use this method. it is not likely that every child in a program is going to listen, or sometimes they just dont respond well with this method and you need to try a different way. By no means should we "control" a child and force them to do something they want to do, but keep encouraging them to do the right thing or switch/tweak the activity to adapt it to something they enjoy.

Respectful guidance style is more effective because it allows both the student and the teacher build a good bond with each other. By being respectful, as a teacher, you are displaying good characteristics to the children. The children can learn and also make their own choices they believe are respectful. If a teacher isn't being respectful, children won't feel the need to be either.

The respectful guidance technique is definitely the most effective because it molds the child's choices and behaviors in a positive way for a long term benefit. The key there is long term- as threats/brides, fear, etc could be seen as effective in the short term-in the moment-and the child does not retain the deeper meaning of what is right or wrong. You want to be a role model - respectful guidance ensures a positive role model as a teacher while the others could be seen as negative role models--that may even turn the child down a negative path for the long term like becoming a bully because they learned from a bully type teacher rather than from respect.

I think that Respectful Guidance should be most followed by teachers. This method seems to give a scaffolding support for the children. However, I do see a time and place to use parts of the other styles. The statement "Rules must be strictly followed", from the Authoritarian Guidance can indeed be good protocol. Consistence with all things gives aid to the children finding their own self discipline.

I believe respectful guidence is very effective of course, but i fell you need a little bit of every thing to have a well rounded view. Not all children are going to react the same and not all childrena re going respond the same, some will need more and some will need less. Being authoritative is very mportant at the beinging to set standards and to teach boundries. when respect is given on both ends then it is easier for both sides to have open communication.

I believe that the respectful guidance is the best choice. You need an environment where there are set rules, but still allows the child to have their own reasoning and expression. The Respectful guidance structure works best and is what I would expect my own child to receive in a program and I always put myself in the parent shoes and see my students as how my own children should be treated. It's important to remember that some of the kids are receiving a different type of guidance structure at home and will need time to adapt to a healthy model of achievement. And teachers would benefit from recognizing if their own style has become reflective of the lesser positive ways to guide children and seek resources to benefit them and the students.

I believe that the respectful guidance is best because most importantly, it gives children some responsibility and power. Without giving children responsibility and power there can be a lack of interest and attention to the rules. By listening to the children, the children are more likely to listen to the adults/teachers because they feel respected. This style of guidance gives both sides what they need, not just the adults.

I think the Respectful guidance approach is the most powerful. The Authoritative approach is too strict and stifles growth and creativity. If I am helping a child develop into an adult then I want to teach them what we want as adults and humans. I would say the respectful method is most effective. Children need to know that there are rules to be followed, but they should not be afraid of those rules. They need to know that the environment they are in is safe and that they can be themselves wherever they may be. I want students to be able to make their own choices and be able to communicate to me how they are feeling. Teachers need to show good examples of what they expect the students to do. If a teacher is not being respectful of students then the students will not want to be respectful of the teacher or adult in the room.

Definately the respectful guidance. It is so helpful to use this method in the classroom and on the playground. Not to mention at home. Children like to be able to make their own choices but a bit of adult intervention once in awhile can go along way in their respect for you as a teacher.

Respectful! To ask children to consider how their actions impact others and themselves can be a stretch (emotionally, socially) at times, but certainly not too much to ask for. This is a high form of ethics, rather than a fear-based environment of punishment/reward... which we seem to be feeling a lot of negative effects of in our larger world (prison system, anyone?)

Respectful guidance is clearly the best the choice! We want children to be all they can be, and guide them through this with patience, understanding, and respect. They will learn more, they will learn faster, if they are allowed to think things through, and make their own choices. By showing them respect, they learn to not only respect the adults in their life, but themselves as well.

The respectful guidence style is the correct choice. Laying down a set of rules & giving kids an explination for these rules instead of just enforcing them teaches kids reasoning behind rules. This helps chilren gain a stronger sense of right & wrong while also making them aware of inportant rules.

Respectful guidance is the most effective by far. This is because children (and adults) learn best through positive reinforcement. When children feel loved, accepted and appreciated even when they are being corrected or punished for bad behavior children will have a greater desire to do better because it is the right thing to do and they will feel better about themselves for it.

Without a doubt, 'respectful guidance' is the most effective and worthy style when it comes to mentoring and teaching children. As with most things in life, moderation, give/take and 'happy mediums' are very important in how you deal with children. There should be consequences so children can learn cause and effect and understand why they should or should not behave in certain ways. However, children need to explore and understand for themselves. Kindness, empathy and compassion are just as important as structure, expectations and mutual respect. With a balance of both sides of the spectrum, children can learn to be respectful, self-appreciating, level-headed adults.

The Respectful Method!

I like this one even though it can often be the hardest to set up. But once everyone understands that they need to respect each other, the class can do amazing things. If everyone is thinking for themselves and thinking about how they can help each other out, the teacher can be more spontaneous in how activities take shape. One great example happened today in my program. When figuring out how to divide up snacks to people who wanted seconds, we had a group discussion that ended with a solution that made everyone happy. I like to think that they learned my way is not the ultimate law, but that they can talk things out themselves and come up with solutions as long as everyone is acting respectfully.

I think respectful guidance is the most effective method, because you are setting ground rules that require children to respect you, themselves, parents, and other students, while also letting them be who they are, and make choices that help them grow and develop in a positive direction. This allows the child to free themselves of the idea of "doing something wrong," and learn to achieve things in a way they are most comfortable with. When children feel like they are heard and respected, they respond positively to adults and other kids.

Even in adult life, if someone doesn't respect you, you are less inclined to do what he/she is asking you to do, and you are less inclined to interact with that person later in life. I think that the respectful guidance style is the most effective. I believe that style not only recognizes that kids are kids (and thus still developing), but it also gives the kids room to grow into thinking, compassionate adults. This style, I believe, lets the kids expand and test limits while still providing a structure in which they can do so safely.
The authoritarian style would teach the kids to not ask questions or explore their curiosity or even express their opinions, while the permissive style doesn't provide the structure that kids need to be able to function in every day life. I could easily see how kids who are raised in the permissive style to not understand consequences of their actions or to respect rules/authority figures.

I believe respectful guidance is most effective. It best caters to the needs of children. Recognizing that they are still growing and learning but providing the skills and environment to do that safely.

The respectful guidance style is the best choice. It provides clear and consistent expectations of both the children and the caregivers, creates a healthy learning environment with realistic boundaries, and allows room for both fun and discipline.

I feel like respectful guidance is the best choice of the three. It incorporates feeling wanted while allowing the child to know they should listen to the adults. Respectful guidance offers positive encouragement and an overall kind demeanor for all involved.

I think highly that being respectful and show that their respecTed is right. Giving them chances/choices is also important. I also think that having a kid being involved in a good envoriment is important for our program we also make sure the kids feelings are respected.

As they grow they question a lot of things such in education, politics and etc. But showing and having a kid being in a healthy enviorment where they don't feel pressured to do things is also important. I totally agree with the respectful part of the reading.

Which of the three guidance styles would you consider more effective and why?

I believe that the style that would be the most effective is respect. I believe this because children should have space for mistakes and we are there to help them catch their mistakes and guide them to not help them make the same mistakes again. Also, because it gives children a voice, many kids don't have the opportunity to talk about how they feel because at home they don't have that. Lastly, I believe its a healthier way for kids to learn, its a healthy way for them to learn respect and how to give and receive respect.

I would say respectful, it teaches the children if you want to be treated right, then you have to treat others with respect if you want the same in return.

Respective guidance is by far the best practice. There is more of a choice and a level of respect between child and provider. Instead of allowing children complete freedom or giving them no freedom, the respective guidance approach is a great median.

i would use the respectful one because all children should learn the basics of respecting themselves as well as one another.

Respective is the best guidance style because it allows slight flexibility with the structure of authority. This style will work best with children and give them a relaxed yet firm environment.

I would definitely choose the Respective way when it comes to guidance and how the children should be handled. As a teacher, outside of home. We maybe the only example of integrity, support, and respect that they come in contact with. And as a teacher it is my obligation to mold the minds of my students to be: respectful, strong, and people of integrity/ of good character and morals.

Respective is the most effective because it provides rules clear to the child and it teaches children to respect the daycare and everyone in it as well

the respectful is the most effective because it sets clear rules for the students with a understanding of punishments. it helps the students learn right from wrong and how to respect the school as well as the teachers and other students.

Respective is the most important because we want to encourage children to think for themselves and feel comfortable to come to an adult for guidance when needed.

The respectful guidance style because it is positive and helpful. It's the happy middle where the children aren't under complete control but are also not at complete freedom. It allows the kids to have room for mistakes, to learn for themselves and be who they are or wish to be yet we are there to help guide and pick them back up whenever needed. It's a way for them to be taught right from wrong but they are allowed to make their own choices. Children will learn to control their behavior and accept their emotions/feelings.

I think the most effective way to work with kids is to be respectful. Setting too many rules and not allowing kids to make choices doesn't allow them to learn and grow from the choices they make. Not setting any rules doesn't teach them to be respectful of guidelines and authority. Being respectful will have an even balance of allowing them to make choices and teaching them to follow rules.

Definitely Respectful Guidance. The child is given the balance to be child that is learning and makes mistakes, but with set rules so they know there are boundaries. Kids learn by making mistakes and adults need to know that is okay, that should be respected and second chances should be given once in a while. But being "too flexible" allows the idea that mistakes can be on purpose and flexible boundaries mean that there won't be repercussions.

Respectful guardian is the best option. This is a great middle ground to meet children at. This way children aren't threatened by you but they have a respect for you higher than to run around and do whatever they want all day

I believe respectful guidance is the most affective because when a child feels that you respect them and care about how they feel etc they are more inclined to trust and respect you

The respectful guardian technique is the most effective approach I believe because the students feel like they have set boundaries and they seem to listen better. Children make mistakes and teaching them this way makes them understand why there choices were wrong.

Respectful Guidance Technique.

It helps the child gain gain your trust, and value your words and friendship. There has to be a common ground in order for everyone to work well together, and by respecting each other this allows for that.

I believe that the respectful guidance system works best. Respect works both ways between the children and yourself. It is important to hear out where the children are coming from but at the same time they must understand that there are boundaries.

While Respectful guidance strategies should always be at the root of our program philosophy and practices, it is also vital for children to deepen their understanding of safety protocols and emergency procedures in response to the current social climate as well as disaster preparedness. Often the best way to build trust between a caregiver and child starts with a foundation of respect for self, others, property, and planet. Expectations must be clear, consistent, and communicated throughout each activity and transition. Children should be encouraged to learn and understand the difference, for example, between lining up to go outside for play and cooperating during drills and actual emergencies when Authoritarian guidance is often implemented (fire, earthquake, lockdowns).
Children need assurances that they will be safe, valued, and respected for simply BEING. I approach these three styles as a balancing act, dependent on lenses of time, environment, and cultures or dynamics. In art, children should be given regular opportunities to create with fewer restrictions to choice and expression where adult guidance (Permissive) is limited to providing access, tools and supplies, and expectations for safety. In cases of positive redirection as a behavior management strategy, children can be given a set of choices rather than one directive. Whether a child care provider is leading an activity, disciplining a child, or facilitating an emergency drill, Authoritarian and Permissive guidance styles may lend stability and creativity to a program rooted in Respectful Guidance.
