Professionalism means maintaining and sharpening specialized skills that relate to the job. Child care professionals are people who know how to guide and promote growth (mental, emotional, etc) of their students so that the students can go on to make good choices and be productive adults.
It's important to maintain, especially in this field, because if a child care worker doesn't know these specialized skills, they will not be an effective care provider. Without these skills, they could not get along with their students or even accidentally stunt their growth in becoming well-rounded adults.
