Developmental screening for school agers is important for catching stuff like disabilities.
I don't have an observation method right now, my boss does all of that, but she has a paper in the child's file that she would fill out if she noticed something.

The importance for developmental screening is to make sure no child is left behind. If you notice that a student is squinting to see the clock or their friends that are far away on the play ground this could show a problem with eye sight, that if gone undetected could also hinder learning in the classroom.
I keep sticky notes with me and make notes for the children during the day. This is also a place I can write achievements so that I can pass them along to parents if I don't see them.

I agree with you on your statements. This is also what I do. At my care facility, I am the lead teacher, but I work 2 jobs and am also a para educator at a local elementary school. I observe, and work 1.1 with the students in my classes. I write down observations that I feel need to be addressed or noticed by someone else. In both my jobs, these observations would go to my supervisor/principle/teacher.

The importance of screening a child is to make sure that nothing is coming in the way of the child's learning process. If you notice that they are having a hard time reading the board from the back of the class, make sure to talk with their parents when they come to pick them up or even send a note home so that the parent is aware

Making keen observations regarding each child is essential to ensuring a healthy environment. Understanding and noting particular personalities and on going behavior traits will enable the worker to better suit their relationship to the child and the programming that is offered. it will be helpful in guiding your decisions on how to interact appropriately to the child and particular situations that arise. it also allows them to feel safe and cared for because it show that you are taking the time to understand who they are and how they best develop and interact with their environment and those around. when working with groups of children it is necessary to still adjust to each individual while offering programming that benefits all of the kids.

Developmental screening is important so that all providers, parents or anyone that works with the child can be on the same page, especially when behavior occurs. Also to catch behaviors that may be new and can be addressed. My observation and recording method would be to keep a separate notebook for the child and document all behavior for a time. Inform the parent that I am doing so and that they are able to observe the notebook at any time.

Screenings are important for addressing developmental issues early on in the child's development. It enables parents to make choices on getting professional help, and teachers to figure out how to create the most effective learning environment so the child can thrive. Since I am an assistant, it is my job to report anything I see to a head teacher, who in turn shares the information with the center head. They both contact the parents, and them set up a personalized plan for moving forward with the child's care.

Developmental screening is important because it affects how the child learns. If a child needs extra resources and is not getting them this can put them behind in their classroom. I currently do not have a method however, if we do notice something peculiar in a child we let our director know so that she adds it to the child's file and the parent is notified.

Developmental screening for school aged children is important in order to see how students are developing. Are they right on target with their age group or is there a delay in any given area? Learning disabilities can sometimes be hard to see so it is important to screen children while their brains are still developing.

We have a sheet with the student name then we can add in the dates as we notice things we need to take note of. If we notice a pattern then we are able to go to parents with data to go along with the information we are giving them about their child.

1.It is important to do developmental screenings to find any hardships the child is having and help the students develop tools or find resources early on that will help prevent any further difficulties and challenges that arise.
2. Observations should include things out of the ordinary that are occurring or repetitive behavior that is unusual. It should include the date and time to see if patterns arise and parents or caretakers should be notified if behavior continues. Observations should also include things the child is excelling in or challenges they are experiencing.

It is important for providers to do developmental screening so that if a child is experiencing any delays they can be addressed early and have as little effect on a child's learn ability as possible.
My observation method would be to keep a closer eye on a child that I may think is having difficulties. I would then talk with the other teachers in the classroom to make sure they are also aware. I would then try and talk to the parents and see how the child is doing outside of the class room
To record these things I think that a chart with a list of all students names with a comments section. One should be created every few weeks, or once a month to keep track of any other changes.

It is very important that children to participate in developmental screening to check for any developmental delays that will hold them back in school and will challenge them in order to follow the curriculum. When a child is diagnosed with a learning disability at a young age, the child is more likely to get the appropriate help they need in the classroom for the future.

Luckily in the field I work in, I am a teacher's assistant and any time I have any concerns about the child I have many other teachers and cite managers I can confront the situation to and let them observe for themselves.

1. It is important because it allows parents and caregivers the ability to quickly asses the situation and get help, if need be so that way the proper treatment plan can be made. This allows any observations that were noticed to be potential problems to be addressed and remedied for the best interest of the child to help them grow and develop instead of being held back from anything.

2. We have a behavior log sheet for each child where we can log unacceptable behavior or situations and put any observations we notice such as having a hard time reading, squinting, writing, etc.

It is important for children to undergo developmental screening so that any issues or irregularities that arise can be dealt with promptly, for the benefit of the child. For example, if a child is squinting and needs eye correction, it is better to take note of this early on so they can get what they need to be successful in their learning.

Keeping a log of developmental observations is important, and can be as simple as jotting down a date, name, and the behavior observed. It is then important to communicate the observations to parents, and to keep track of when parents have been contacted.

We have a note book that we use collective as a staff to write down issues with children, but we also have independent plan of care forms for parents to sit down with us or our director to discuss ways to help redirect or maybe remove them from the situation.

Developmental screening is important because it helps you see what each child's learning and interacting abilities are. Have a chart or even just a plain paper , write down the date, name of child , observations you see and parent contact. This helps you tell the parents what you see and the parents can help their child before it gets worst. Also it helps you to know that you might have to do a certain project or activity different for him or her.

Developmental screening is important becuase it is one way to ensure the child is developing as he or she should be. It is also helpful in possibly noticing some delays and getting help as soon as possible. I think charting is a great way to keep track of any odd or unusual behaviors that may be of concern. One on one time may also be helpful in developmental screening as children sometimes act differently in that setting or with adults.

Developmental screening is important so adults/teachers can notice any sort of developmental delay. If it is overlooked, a disability could be 'hidden' from their parents eyes for too long- not ensuring the child gets the help they need as soon as they might need it.

If I were to observe something unusual in a child I would make sure that it is not just a temporary thing and once it is noticed make a mental not to watch for it to see if it occurs more than once. If I spot the same thing once more, I would inform the parent and the other teachers that it was noticed. If the parent has not already observed it I would ask the parent to keep an eye out for it and if they see it, advise them to take the child to the proper professional.

Importance of Developmental Screening:
I think it has two main meaningful outcomes. First, it helps in the discovery of any developmental delays that need to be addressed. Second, it gives parents updates on their children's growth. This can include both achievements and delays.
My school does not currently have a protocol to follow when it comes to documenting developmental observations. However I, as teacher, am allowed ample time to share with parents anything that comes to my attention during each day.

Developmental screening helps insure children are learning at the pace they should be without any limitations. If disabilities are caught early on, it gives the parents an opportunity to seek professional help and guidance. It also gives the educator or child care provider an idea on how to adapt their teaching styles for that particular child. To observe development, I usually keep a note pad in my pocket or within reach at all times. This way I can write down issues when I see them and don't forget to notify parents later. I also have a progress chart to track students who have struggled in the past to see how they are adapting to changes that were made.

Developmental screening is so important so that if a student needs extra time or resources to assist in keeping up with similar age groups this can be done as soon as possible. A big decrease in self esteem happens when kids notice they aren't able to accomplish what their friends are and with a little help, they could thrive. Currently we make notes in our own notebook and then bring up concerns at parent/teacher conference. I love the sample sheet provided in this course and will start using it next week!

It is extremely important to be diligent with developmental screening. By catching an issue early, the problem could be remedied or decreased. If not caught early, the problem could spiral into a bigger concern.

Our program uses a daily journal for each child. Here, teachers can list concerns and informs parents of what the child does each day. This journal offers another way to communicate clearly with each parent, as pick up and drop off times can get hectic.

I feel it's extremely important. It helps identify the specific needs outside of what some of us "normally" understand and adapt to. We don't have a plan that I know of. However, I keep my own personal record based on behavior patterns, reactions to certain questions and especially consequences. For example I understood immediately one of our boys has autism. He does not understand any type of aggressive behavior(this is different then discipline). He gets very quiet and shameful if you raise your voice or don't communicate with lots of room for empathy and understanding. He needs a break down on why and the outcome and more often then not he just needs to understand his mom and dad want this for him. Of course we accommodate and he is brilliant but its a lot easier on everyone, especially the child if we know in advance they have specific needs outside what we usually see and expect.

Developmental screening is important in addressing and catching any potential problems along the road for the child(ren). I typically carry a clipboard with a paper attached and the children’s name on it where I can jot down things I feel parents should be aware of both positive and negative. This enables families and teachers/caregivers an opportunity to seek help if necessary and create effective, caring learning environments so children can thrive. In doing this I think we create trust, communication and a bond with everyone involved thus ensuring a safe, caring and educational environment that we all seek for our children.

2.) We have a model where we have the child's name, date written of the observation, and the observation written next to each other in a row. Parents are informed of the observation, depending on the severity, either at pick-up or in a go-home note.

Scanning for developmental delays is important because the sooner any behavior is noticed it can be corrected more easily. This will help prevent the kid from falling behind. Serious behavior issues or concerns are always communicated directly to the parent, and other issues are always communicated with the staff and director to make a educated decision on how to best assist a child.

The important of developmental screening for kids is for the adults to accurately prepare for scenarios of interaction between kids. If one kid has more difficulty simulating into the group because of these issues established with developmental screening, then the staff has an opportunity to come up with alternative methods for simulation for that kid, that would've otherwise not been brought out into the light for obvious reasons. Being aware of everyone's strengths and weaknesses allows for great inclusion, and overall growth.

The imortance of developmental screening is to allow every child the best opportunities to enhance their learning. Finding developmental delays at an esrly age can prevent them from falling behind early on, and creating a snowball effect as they get older. In our program, we use a notebook to write down any conxerns or observations we have made. We use it to jot down quick notes and at the end of the day, we go over them as staff and based on our observations as a whole, we discuss these things with parents at pick-up and drop-off.

Developmental screening can detect a problem that is much easier to solve when the child is young. Depending upon the concern, there are interventions to implement, and with earlier intervention with intensity that varies according to the circumstance, it is often possible to improve or even reverse the adverse affects of the delays. When noticing delays, it is important to keep a log of concerns, to communicate concerns with parents through informal conversations or sometimes formal conferences. It is then important to get assessments from the proper experts who can help the parents navigate the situation.

Screening is important because it provides opportunities for early intervention. It describes challenges the child is facing and ways to assist parents in accessing resources.

Observation occurs by watching for warning signs or behaviors that indicate the child is facing a challenge of some kind. Squinting, struggling with dexterity, and trouble focusing can all be indicators of a particular challenge. It is important to document the child's name, date of occurrence, notes/observations, and whether or not the parent was contacted.

It is important to keep the track of developmental screening, as some youth do not tell parents that they are having a hard with something like seeing, reading, understanding how things are explained to them. As child care giver you can share your concerns with the parents so that they can ask or question why the child didn't share any of that with them.

Developmental Screening can make the biggest impact on a childs life, as they are not aware of the changes in their bodies. No children are alike so this means careful attention to each childs uniqueness will also go hand in hand with their education. If the child needs extra resources to stay at the same level as their peers then it is best to be caught sooner than later in their development.

- It is important to involve parents because, they are a part of education of the kid too. It is much more effective to work altogether, than working each one on his side.

2 - I use a sort of workbook. On the first column, I put the date. On the second one, I put what I observe now. On the third one, I put what was the situation, the behavior just before (if I remember). On the fourth one, I write how I react to this, which tool I use... So I can see if it happen often or not.
When the behavior or the issue is repreated more than twice a week, or when it seems to be important, I share my observations with parents

Early screening for me child would have been beneficial, and he is now 21 years old. The fact that he was born premature was a predominant fact in his case. He was diagnosed with ADHD at age 4, early yes but four years too late. He was introduce to school but he felt (in the outside) because he did not know how to deal with his ADHD. The teacher could not deal with him either so he was often alone doing his own thing. There was no observation done, just report cards that stated that he had difficulty learning anything. We were at a lost but to this day, being different has affected him developmentally, emotionally, and his self-esteem. On the positive side he has learned to be more independent then any other children that I know and he can do anything he sets his mind to.

Developmental screening has been placed as an early detection of any learning disabilities children may have. Being able to observe the children and notice if they are struggling can help the growth of the child and can truly expand their knowledge. I was homeschooled until freshman year with my two brothers. My junior year I had a class with my Freshman brother and noticed that he could not sit still, he could not stop talking either. His grades were extremely poor so I told my parents to contact our doctor, it turned out that he had ADD and has since then picked up his grades. Although it was an extremely late detection, observing my brother helped me to realize that he may have a learning disability.

It is important to observe and to screen children in order to identify any disabilities and to make sure the child is developing at a normal rate. School age children do not get screened often so we need to keep an observation log.

Developmental screening is important to note developmental and/or behavioral disability to address it immediately through early intervention. In school, we use anecdotal records that look at the following: cognitive, physical (gross and fine motor), emotional, social, and language development. Developmental milestones are used as indicators. The records also consider triggers such as the most likely time a particular behavior occurs, class activity, peer relationship, and other factors.

The importance of developmental screening is to record, understand, and share with parents the incidences when a child shows signs of a disability. This can be as simple as noticing that a child may have some vision troubles, or that a child is showing signs of an inability to learn that may go beyond variations in regular learning development. It is important to record instances in a way that doesn't define the child, only his or her actions, and it is extremely important to relay this information to the parents so that they can assess and possibly take their child to see a professional.

It is important for school-aged children to be developmentally screened because it can find developmental delays and disabilities. The best way to observe and record students is to write down their progress for a period of time and work with the families of the students to improve or change their learning styles.

It is important to screen the children to identify early on any learning, physical or emotional needs/delays in the children. That way you can communicate it to the parents and the children can get the help they need. At my work we have a communication log book similar to the example they had in the lesson.

The importance of screening is to catch any delays in development that may prevent the child from learning or functioning. A good example of this is students who have a hard time seeing objects far away, or the inability to differentiate between two colors.

Because so many children (13%) have something affecting their development, it is important to pay attention. Identifying their strengths and weakness will help us as child care providers, teachers and parents to adjust how we work with the student. I do not currently have a system for writing down observations, but something like the worksheet on the last page looks like a great idea and great way to make sure parents are aware of how their child is developing.

The reason that it is important is because about 13% of children have disabilities without, including parents, noticing. It also catch the setbacks in the development that can stop the child from learning of functioning properly.
We do not really have an observation sheet children having disabilities.

1. Observation screening is important for a number of reasons. In childcare it is important because for a lot of the students we may spend more waking ours with a kid than a parent between childcare/school and parents having to work. We are mandated reporters of suspicious behavior/change in behavior or unusual behavior so we can help catch something that may be more serious than we may realize. For example noticing things that lead us to believe a child has a disability or is being abused.
2. In my childcare program, additional from monitoring the children, we make an effort for talk to each kid individually for at least 2 minutes. Then at the end of each day when the student is getting picked up, letting the parent know how their child's day went.

The importance of screening is to make sure the child is developing properly and to notice when a child is developing a disability to better accommodate that child early-on.
At our program we don't have a place to record all of the observations we make, other than discussing it with the other staff members at the end of the day and sending out emails to the parents as soon as we notice a serioius change in behavior.

Screening is important because, like most things, the earlier the symptoms are recognized and diagnosed, the easier life will be on the child. If I saw this in my classroom, I would discuss it with fellow teachers who know the students, and then have a discussion with the parents about what I have noticed in the classroom. Hopefully from there, we can do the best work for the child.

Developmental screening enables us as a childcare professional to help assess the development of each child. Providing accurate and frequent observations and recordings for parents help to detect early warnings of possible delayed development and/or learning disabilities. Be mindful that each child grows differently and at their own pace. Discuss any abnormal signs with parents in private and work together to tend to each child's developmental needs.

School age screening is important because children are likely to develop a disability during school age years till they are about 17 years of age. Catching these changes early may help a child get the things they need to prevent greater harm in their future and help them learn. At our program we keep a parent communication log and have incident reports. We also speak to parents frequently about any changes their child may have.

It is important to do developmental screening because catching sings on disability or any type of struggle is very important. If we don't observe or ignore, there is a a concern on letting things that could be caught slip by.

What I am taught is when observing and something catches our eye, good or bad, we are to write it down and then talk with a co-worker or boss so everyone is on the same page then decide who should relate the message to parents. Over-all, our boss handles communication between parents if really needed or for extra support.

Developmental screening is vital to an early childhood program because staff learns specifically of disabilities we may be exposed to and how to interact with children with those disabilities. I find comfort knowing that I have a blueprint of how I can better interacting with a child with special circumstances.

My site coordinator has a good relationship with the parents and I being new lead I am working towards communicating with parents but with all situation the coordinator writes a note on the sign in/sign out sheet or leave a note in the book and the parent will speak with him.

It is important because if you don't write down a red flag now, it may cause bigger issues in the future. It is important to catch something earlier rather than later.
2. Describe your observation and recording method.
Leaving notes for parents about any concerns, I also recommend telling them verbally as well, because it shows that you are very concerned with the child and their wellness.

The importance of developmental screenings in school age children is identifying any problems the child may have in order to get them the assistance they need. This will allow them a better opportunity for success in their future. Sometimes just knowing and explaining ways to manage the difficulties makes all the difference to the parents and the child.
I am newer at my current facility and have not had the opportunity to officially observe or record anything yet. However, once I did notice a student having some difficulties during my class and I brought it to the attention of his main instructor as I am an "electives class" instructor.

It's incredibly important for developmental screening--the earlier something is caught, the quicker the parents, teachers, and/or doctor can step in to help. Not catching something, such as dyslexia or sight problems, could lead to the student failing in school, which would impact them emotionally and intellectually. The same goes for ADHD or Asperger's. The aforementioned could add more difficultly for the student as they could also heavily impact the social and familial relationships that the student will have. If these are noticed and brought the the parent's attention early, the student (and all their support, such as their parents and teachers) can begin to learn tools for overcoming any disabilities.
At our program, we try to get to know the kids and therefore become familiar with their "baseline", so if the child does start behaving abnormally (not their "baseline") we can be aware of it. Depending on the change in the kids behavior, we might wait a day or two (while keeping the student in question under close watch) and then tell the parents what we have noticed. We always check in with the student first--It could be that the student is just having an off day. If the change of behavior is drastic, we still check in with the student, but then we talk to the parents and let them know what we have noticed.

2. We really don't have any observation methods we use. We do document things like accidents or incidents (like bad behavior or any issues the child may have had that day) that happened, but nothing to write observations of a child down. We do talk to parents and let them know when the child up if anything was observed.

Developmental screening for school-age children is very important. Overlooking red flags at this young age may cause much bigger problems in the child's future. In our program we have a behavior log that we can choose to use for children if we believe that it is needed. It is kept just for our records to track certain children's behavior progress, and that progress is reported to parents.

Developmental screening are important, as they can identify any developmental delays, or if a child may need additional tools to success (such as hearing aids or glasses).

I have reported a concern for a kid that may need glasses because they bring their face very close to the paper to read. A kid who often doesn't answer when called or asked a question may need hearing assistance. A kid who continuing shows lack of enthusiasm may need help getting better sleep at night. A kid who gets out of their chair frequently, and without purpose may need professional testing for developmental or behavioral disability.

Developmental screening is important because school age children don't have as many doctor check-ups as younger children. Therefore, some developmental problems may arise and may not be noticed by anyone else beside the parent and the school staff that sees the child day to day and notices differences that may need to be brought up to a doctor or specialist to provide the child with the help that he or she needs. In our program we have incident and accident reports at hand, and use them almost daily. We see more parents than some teachers do and we are able to communicate with them personally if there are any concerns.

Developmental screening is extremely important. It is very important to observe children to get them the help and support that they need as soon as possible. Every child deserves the same care and witnessing any delays or factors that may affect development is important to note. Luckily within our childcare, we have many opportunities to observe our children and watch to see if we notice any certain behaviors or anything like that. We do have a notebook in which we are able to write any noticeable things down.

As child care professionals, we often have more time across a wide variety of activities with children in our programs throughout an academic year, during school breaks, and sometimes for several years from ages 5-12. We also have frequent communication with parents/guardians about behavior and skills progress. Our observations during pivotal development stages may be helpful to those needing additional care and teaching, or different tools for learning, playing, and growing. Early detection can make a positive difference for a child and the family who may be struggling. However, not all of us are trained and certified to diagnose and advise children and families. We cannot give medical advice or suggest medication, for example, but we can share observable concerns such as, "I noticed Johnny isn't responding when I call his name." Parents and guardians may choose what they do with that information.

Documenting these observations may be helpful to record changes over a period of time and whether or when a parent/guardian was informed. I might take notes on circumstances involving a second grader who still needs assistance tying their shoes. If a child is having frequent accidents or using the restroom more than usual, I would record a note about it and communicate directly with a parent. Remember to include the time & date, location, name(s), and other relevant data.
