I like how that sounds. We tend to do that as the kids finish up their lunch or snack and they either go outside and play or color where they are most comfortable.

This is what I do also. In my classroom, I have many different "centers" available. Math such as rings, blocks, dominoes. reading with a variety of books and writing materials. Art, with paper, pencils, markers, paints, a home living center, lego table, games center, etc. The kids are given the choice of which they would like to do daily. I make sure that they all get a turn at the legos which is a favorite. We also do outdoor play, and hot potato indoors, ribbon dancing and puppets. Busy minds and hands make them all happy, and they are learning, developing and progressing with all the fun.

1. The biggest reason to encourage play is to join in with the children; the more a child care worker is playing, the more children will play as well.
2. Make sure that their are a lot of activity stations set out for the children so that it gives them more options.
3. Allow the children to play in the designated areas and set play times.

One thing I do to encourage play in my center is to provide the kids with enough toys and games. I try to include different things, like we have a ball pit in my class, and a tunnel the kids can crawl through. Another thing is to give the kids enough time to play with each activity. And the third thing I make sure and do is to include myself in their games, so that they may get more excited about what they are doing.

2. ASK! ask the kids what it is they want out of play. find out their interests and the things they like to do, and add it to their options.
3. try and have something planned out, most childrent need direction and this is the perfect way to give it to them. it is also a great way to instill direction following. there can always be a small area away from the (craft, activity) you have planned for the day.

1. The first and most important thing we do is simply provide a dedicated "free choice" time and a wide variety of activities that can be done during that time.

2. Where possible, we join in play with the children during free choice time, or at the very least show an interest in their activities, especially in the drawings/sculptures/other artwork they might create.

Emphasize the importance and value behind every activity in order to ensure each child realizes the potential gain for themselves, from each activity. Explain before the games or activity begins what the kids should expect will happen, by walking them through the activity before hand it may allow them to pull more out of each activity. Finally, recap each activity and highlight the positives and negatives to allow future learning experiences to be gained from the same activity even if the activity seems redundant.

3 ways to encourage play:
1. Choice- student led games, offering choices in games, etc. will lead to more fun play time.
2. Supplies- having the proper supplies is really important, or if you don't teaching the students to improvise or figure out a new way to do it is an awesome and fun learning experience.
3. Time- playing can too often be cut short. If it's going well, children are engaged, learning, having fun, etc. Just let them PLAY. Too often we get consumed by the idea of following schedules and curriculum. Although, both are important, sometimes it's okay to just let them play.

Have tables with different activities.

Have board games, art supplies and Legos and other activities available at all times for children to choose from.

Start clubs, cooking, skit, art.

Have time for children to do these things. If they don't have enough time, they feel rushed and may not want to start something if they know they don't have enough time to finish.

For inside play I think that well organized centers are a good start. Centers where they can create art, have some quiet times, or listen to music, for example. Outside we can encourage group play for cognitive and problem solving skills, and to make it interesting we need to have an array of tools/areas where they can express themselves.

You can encourage play by creating fun spaces (like centers) for children to discover and enjoy new activities like music, art, and science, you can give them all of the supplies they need (like art supplies, musical instruments, balls, blocks, ect.) to allow them to express themselves and enjoy activities, and you can also join in on the play. 2. play with them. As being a a child care provider, it is important that the child sees you interacting with them and also other children. It shows that you care and interested with what they are interested in.
3. Make play time fun and have other children be involve. Yes they're are some children that so no like to play the game that the group is play, but when you involve winning a prize or just even a team player, then they will like to play.

1. Teach children a new game every week outside that involves different actions (running quickly or slow motion, jumping, crawling, etc)
2. Change themes in centers weekly. Provide different textures and medium for fine sensory. Display their art work or collaborated works around the room and discuss books.
3. Play a variety of music (instrumental and with vocals) that represent different cultures. Role play with props from numerous countries or places within your community.

Keep areas filled with engaging activities that invite children to explore alone or with friends.

Three things that we can do to encourage play in our program are to combine their interest with activities and play. Have different interest areas. We can introduce new materials and equipment once in a while to change things up. We can keep any activity out on the daily if we see it's a popular one with most of the kids. We can also be role models to them and participate ourselves.

Interest centers, daily and rotational, allow children to choose an activity they can enjoy on their own or with others. Making supplies readily available upon request or child-accessible supports appropriate activity upon entry and during transitions. Invite children to participate in group games, special projects, or a fundamental game of skill like Go Fish, Chess/Checkers, Mancala, Chutes and Ladders, etc. Two of my current students like to play Librarian so I let them operate the book cart and issue handmade library cards to check out books to their peers. Others prefer the roles of Teacher, Cook, Server, Engineer, or Caregiver. I may order food from one child while building a Lego creation with another. Kids like to engage the adults who care for them almost as often as they choose more independent activities. Observing play times and inquiring about individual interests enhance our abilities to meet the needs and interests of children in our care. Giving children a daily schedule and reminding them of upcoming transitions before halting their activities also encourages positive play.
